Best early catches

Four early picks live in the first regions and each solves a different problem. Emberpup answers the Grass-heavy early areas and evolves at level 12. Celestis flies and climbs, then becomes the ranged damage dealer Stellarys. Skippy becomes Pranky and then Glacy, among the best healers in the game, and swims. Budclaw tunnels through blocked paths and hits the break gauge harder than almost anything else early on.
The four to look for
EmberpupNimbus Fields. Fire answers the Grass Aniimo and bosses of the early areas. It evolves into Flameruff at level 12 once you clear Sanctum: First Spark, and its Aim skill burns away vines hiding chests and cave entrances.
CelestisNimbus Fields. One of the few that can both fly and climb, which solves two traversal problems at once. It evolves into Stellarys, a strong ranged damage dealer, which helps most if you picked Helion.
SkippyNimbus Fields and Sea of Flowers. Skippy becomes Pranky, then Glacy at level 20 with a Wave Stone. Glacy is among the best healers in the game, and the line swims well.
BudclawNimbus Fields. Its Tunnel skill breaks the rocks that block paths and hide chests. It also deals some of the highest BREAK damage early, which helps in boss fights and makes catching easier.
A broken enemy is easier to catch: the catch formula gives Break state ×1.5, and an active Break catch bonus ×3. An early Budclaw pays for itself twice.
Cover the three ways to travel
Cover climbing, flying and swimming early: Celestis climbs and flies, Pranky or Glacy swim, and Cornet or Tromber, from Chirpi, fly well enough to take off from flat ground.

Best early catches, answered
What Aniimo should you catch first in Aniimo?
Emberpup, Celestis, Skippy and Budclaw. They cover early type advantage, flying and climbing, healing and swimming, and BREAK damage.
What is the best early healer?
The Skippy line. Skippy becomes Pranky, then Glacy at level 20 with a Wave Stone, and Glacy is among the best healers in the game.
Which early Aniimo can fly and climb?
Celestis does both. Cornet and Tromber, from Chirpi, can take off from flat ground.
Why catch Budclaw early?
Its Tunnel skill clears rocks that block paths and hide chests, and its line deals heavy BREAK damage, which also makes catching easier.
Where do you find Emberpup?
Nimbus Fields. It evolves into Flameruff at level 12 once Sanctum: First Spark is cleared.
Does the starter matter for early catches?
A little. Both starters are Holy damage dealers, so if you took Helion, Celestis into Stellarys adds ranged damage.
