How catching works in Aniimo

Every throw runs one formula. It starts from a Base Chance set by the area and the Aniimo's tier, then multiplies it by your Aniipod, the level gap, and either the target's HP in combat or a back attack outside it, and finally by a status such as sleep or Break. Aniipod Ultra and the Sparkling Cube skip the formula and always succeed. Without better pods, the biggest gains come from staying within 10 levels of the Aniimo, attacking from behind, and catching it asleep or stunned.

Outside combat: Base Chance × Aniipod × Level × Back Attack × Status.
In combat: Base Chance × Aniipod × Level × HP × Status.
On a defeated target: Defeated Base Chance × Aniipod × Status.
Your character's base catch bonus raises the Base Chance itself: the Aniimo's chance group × (1 + your bonus). Before any of this, the game checks whether the target can be caught at all. If it cannot, the chance is 0%.

Statuses
| Status | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| Break | ×1.5 |
| Break catch bonus active | ×3 |
| Normal sleep, stun, eating, woozy, lured | ×2 |
| Special stun | ×4 or ×100 |
| Deep sleep, collecting nectar | ×100 |
| Cloak | ×0.5 |
| Wary, watching | ×0.9 |
| Leaving | ×0.8, or 0 |
| Rampaging, Bubble Barrier, Umbral, already owned | Cannot be caught |
When statuses overlap
Statuses do not multiply together. If any active status is below ×1, the lowest one applies. If all of them are ×1 or more, the highest one applies.
So an Aniimo that is asleep (×2) but also wary (×0.9) counts as ×0.9. Wake-up states cost you more than sleep gives you.
A Tumbler thrown at a Wild Surge target gets ×6, three times its usual bonus. It is the strongest multiplier you can get without an Aniipod Ultra or a Sparkling Cube.
Alphas and Omegas
A common Alpha cannot be caught while it is alive. Once defeated, its Base Chance is 6%, multiplied by your Aniipod and any status. A common Omega cannot be caught at all.
Why a normal Aniipod checks twice
With a standard Aniipod on a single target, the game runs two checks, each at the square root of your Final Chance, and the catch only lands if both pass. The two checks together still equal the Final Chance, so it is a presentation detail, not a penalty. Every other capture method runs one check, and anything at 100% or more always succeeds.
Story Aniimo
Some Aniimo in the story ignore the formula and have a forced result instead: a guaranteed catch with Break, a set result for back attacks, or a guaranteed catch outside combat, among others.
Catching, answered
What is the best Aniipod in Aniimo?
Aniipod Ultra and the Sparkling Cube always succeed. Of the rest, Aniipod Hyper, Trace and Mega are ×2, Aniipod Pro ×1.5 and the basic Aniipod ×1. A Tumbler is ×2, or ×6 on a Wild Surge target.
Is it easier to catch Aniimo from behind?
Yes, outside combat with a standard Aniipod: a back attack multiplies the chance by 1.5. Tumblers do not get this bonus.
Does Break help you catch Aniimo?
Yes. Break is ×1.5, and an active Break catch bonus is ×3. If another status below ×1 is also active, that lower one applies instead.
Does your level affect catch rate?
Only when the Aniimo is more than 10 levels above you: 11 above is ×0.8, falling to ×0.1 at 15 or more. Out-levelling an Aniimo gives no bonus.
Can you catch an Omega in Aniimo?
No. Omega Aniimo cannot be caught.
How do you catch an Alpha?
Defeat it first. A common Alpha has a 0% chance while alive and a 6% Base Chance once defeated, before your Aniipod and status multipliers.
Why did my catch fail at a high chance?
Any chance under 100% can fail. If the Aniimo was also wary, watching or leaving, that lower multiplier replaced any sleep or stun bonus.
Which Aniimo cannot be caught?
Anything rampaging, behind a Bubble Barrier, Umbral, or already owned by someone, plus common Omegas and living common Alphas.
